Nonsuch Forest Video

July 26th, 2010

Nonsuch Woods from Darren Woolridge on Vimeo.

A quick video filmed on a lunch break with Canon 1D, 50mm Lens and a tripod. 1874 Images. (Music by Buckminster)

I’ve been experimenting with some stop frame videos lately, due to making the most of what you have got. Not being able to afford a Canon 5D MkII or equivalent has led me to some interesting effects using a camera remote with my Canon 1D set to 4 frames per second. If you set the quality to small jpg, this gives you unlimited shooting time. (well, to the size of your compact flash card).

Photo a Day 2010 blog

January 1st, 2010

I’ve started a new blog at Photo a day 2010. I am aiming to take one image a day to include in my portfolio for every day of 2010. I’m 27 days into it so far and with almost 1000 views it’s going pretty well. It is hard keeping up and making time though. You can follow the feed on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/photoaday_2010

Wish me luck!

Darren

I thought I’d share some favourite tunes every-so-often here. So I’m starting with some of my favourite dance tracks. Some of the tunes, I found on Spotify, so there’s a playlist link.. and the others are dotted around the web… Which is a pain, but they are worth a listen!

  1. Burial & Four Tet – Moth
    A nice 9 minute warm dub-step(ish) vibe.
  2. Tsukimono – Heartfiltershit
From the Scottish looping man. I don’t remember how I got this track. But it’s awesome, and a lovely switcheroo halfway through.
  3. The Tuss – Death Fuck
Rude title… Epic last minute. I’ve never heard a man play analogue synths like Richard D James. Tuss is Cornish for erection also. Redruth Humour…
  4. Fuck Buttons – Surf Solar
Surprisingly good opening 10 minuter from more foul-mouthed boys.
  5. Modeselektor – I Love You
Only track like this on the ‘Hello Mom!’ album, reminds me of ‘On’ By Aphex Twin.
  6. Isoleé – Face B
    Sounds like being underwater.
  7. Actress – Again The Addiction
Really annoyed Mike when he was playing scrabble. Maybe not best played when you are concentrating then. It can make it feel as though pieces of your brain are falling away like wet cake…
  8. Add N To (X) – Oh Yeah, Oh No
    Repetitive, lush, analogue haze.
  9. Four Tet – A Joy
There’s something a bit too good about that beat… Something fishy is going on here…
  10. Orbital – Halcyon And On And On
Possibly the first dance album I owned that didn’t necessitate owning white gloves and a whistle to enjoy it. “There is the theory of the Mobius…”

There you go! Ten beauties for a friday. You can listen to tracks 5-10 on a Spotify Playlist Here.

Sketches

November 30th, 2009

I’ve been doing some sketches over the last couple of months. Mostly with fine liners and adding a little water colours. I was inspired by this small art book I bought. I can’t remember the artist now. (I will look it up) the book is called ‘Sheds’ and it is literally a book of illustrations of American sheds. Really beautiful, simple line drawings. Here is one of my better ones. It’s been inverted in Photoshop to get the white on black look… I wish i spent more time drawing growing up…

Sleeping on a maglite

November 11th, 2009

I have been waking up in the middle of the night for the past 5 days with agonising back pain… I would wake up around 5am and have to guzzle ibuprofen and jam a pillow under my back to get back to sleep. When I went to flip the mattress (which I assumed was to blame). I discovered my 5 Cell maglite laying on the slats right across where my spine lays…. ahhh….

This is one of the saddest things i’ve seen!

Heading to Cornwall…

October 30th, 2009

This evening I will be hopping on a train from London Paddingon to make the 6 hour exodus to Falmouth in Cornwall. I am taking my mamiyaflex camera with lots of slide film and will be looking to eat an unholy amount of pasties and see what’s happening to the place I lived for 3 years at Uni. Below is a video I made this summer in Cornwall.

This new blog is also part of me getting my new website sorted out. But all in due course… there is a LOT to do!
