22-11-2010 Heather

November 23rd, 2010

I found these dyed heather bushes at a garden centre. They were the most bizarre colours, but looked really good together.

12-09-2010 Sunflower

September 15th, 2010

The sunflower featured previously on this blog as a bud, came out this weekend. It now smiles at me as I go into my flat. I liked the tungsten backlight mixed with the cool blue of the night sky on this.

07-09-2010 Seed

September 7th, 2010

An image of a seed shot using 2 tungsten lights. One softbox to the front left and a light illuminating the side of the background. I used superglue to get it standing upright. Not sure what trees these are from, but they have three big pea sized seeds inside the leaves.

14-08-2010 Thistle

August 16th, 2010

A great thing about a newborn baby is using it as an excuse to go and do things like feed the ducks. So there were 4 adults frantically throwing crusty wholemeal at the quacks, whilst the baby slept peacefully in his pram. I found these thistles on the walk back across the park.

29-07-2010 Sunflower

July 29th, 2010

Here’s the tallest sunflower in the garden at the moment. Still no flower, but the leaves are looking great. Of to Cornwall, Devon and Wales soon. Lots of photos to come.

12-07-2010 Sunlit Leaves

July 15th, 2010

I planted this plant almost 5 years ago. It’s now gigantic and the new leaves are coming out this orange colour. The sunlight was shining onto it this evening.

16-06-2010 Macro Leaf Veins

June 16th, 2010

Another plant based shot today. I cut a tiny leaf from outside the studio shot it with a macro lens. Two flashes hand hand held. I think the lens was about 2cm away from the leaf when I shot it, if that. I like the veins running around. Chlorophylltastic!

This was shot outside of my flat against a cloudy sky. That 50mm f1.4 lens really makes things look almost pinhole. Crazy DOF, haven’t used Canon’s 50mm f1.1 Lens, I wonder what that is like. 1mm plane of focus probably. Sorry, these are ramblings of a madman. I’ve been on the computer too long today. [...]

This Rhubarb plant was growing out of the pavement in Clapham. I think someone has been planting edible plants on the street. Might pick some tomorrow for a crumble.

A Close up of a newly discovered seedling. It’s the Sprout of a chilli pepper plant I think. He has beat all of his friends. He just can’t wait to be the producer of my chilli peppers this year.

This was shot in my garden, it’s a Yucca type plant, which was tungsten lit and balanced, which gives the sky such a blue colour. A couple of seconds exposure.

14-03-2010 Giant Flower

March 14th, 2010

This was shot lying on the ground looking up at the flower with a 50mm lens to get the blue sky backdrop. The flower is amazing, probably 11″ inches across. I’m all moved into the new flat, but so exhausted. Just drove back from Bournemouth doing the mother’s day rounds. Hi Mum!
