26-12-2010 Smiley Horse

December 31st, 2010

After an embarrassing fall on the ice on a Boxing day walk, this smiley horse cheered me up.

16-11-2010 Self Portrait 17

November 17th, 2010

Another Self Portrait, non surprisingly, I need to photograph some friends I think. Although, it’s all good practice. It’s interesting using only one flash too.

05-11-2010 Self Portrait 15

November 7th, 2010

For the fifth of November, you might imagine I’d post a fireworks photo. But no. I post a scary portrait of myself. The week of work took it’s toll and I shot some portraits and ran off to the pub.

27-10-2010 Self Portrait 13

October 27th, 2010

Some people might say that I’m doing too many self portraits. But that’s tough. I’m enjoying trying out different lighting styles and no one else is around. Today’s is taken with one light above the head with a reflector below and two lights on the red perspex background. Shot wide open with the tungsten modeling [...]

13-10-2010 Portrait

October 13th, 2010

Lady-Portrait shot holding lamp in one hand and camera in other. Shot at 50mm at f1.4.

Guitar shot on the 1D with extension ring. One tungsten light above and to the left. Surprising effect!

I just spent half an hour out in the garden photographing lifeless snails and I found this brave guy. He didn’t shy away or even put his horns in when I picked him up and he was doing all sorts of stunts. He took a bite from a spider though, which I don’t think was [...]

12-08-2010 Macro Spider

August 16th, 2010

I spent some time photographing these common spiders with extension tubes for the Canon. I’m not sure they were too keen on my lens being 2 inches away from their webs. But I love to see them up this close. So gross.

A close up studio shot of a tower of cherries. Lit with one single soft-box on black perspex and sprayed with a mister for the water drops effect. The cherries were delicious by the way.

20-07-2010 Teabag Abstract

July 21st, 2010

An abstract taken in the studio of a teabag brewing in a pint of boiling water. I was only able to get a sharp line down the centre as the pint glass and water were refracting the image.

16-06-2010 Macro Leaf Veins

June 16th, 2010

Another plant based shot today. I cut a tiny leaf from outside the studio shot it with a macro lens. Two flashes hand hand held. I think the lens was about 2cm away from the leaf when I shot it, if that. I like the veins running around. Chlorophylltastic!

10-06-2010 Macro Eye

June 10th, 2010

Close up of Eleanor’s eye in the studio. Lit with one flash softbox. Shot with an extension tube, and 50mm Lens on Hasselblad.

A Dandelion against blue sky, found in a copse nearby to Nonsuch Park. What awesome weather. My lunch-time paradise was somewhat marred however by the discovery of an old fire and a giant bottle of Grant’s Vodka (the exciting Vodka) discarded in the grass. Don’t dirty my paradise you jerks! Keep Britain tidy, etc, etc…

24-04-2010 Horse Face

May 7th, 2010

This horse was givin’ me the stink-eye when I was jet lagged and walking to the pub having just got back from Mexico. She turned out to be alright and we chatted for hours.

These guys are amazing. They are also called Mexican Racoons, about the size of a Beagle; They live in rubbish nests in the trees and are hungry for Bananas. I followed this one and tempted it with the fruit. There are some pretty cute photos of it coyly approaching too, but I like his bitey [...]
